Docstar 2010!
DocStar 2010 was a great success!
DocStar, Dean Foundation’s fourth annual physician art and talent show, was an enjoyable evening for all who attended. Over 300 guests enjoyed the evening’s entertainment and helped raise enough money to provide free healthcare to more than 400 low-income, uninsured patients.
After a reception, art show and silent auction, the evening performance began with Riverview jazz quintet Jazzguise. They were joined on stage by the legendary Frank Sinatra as recreated by Dr. Tim Axe. After Dean Foundation Board Chair Dr. Judy FitzGerald thanked and welcomed DocStar guests, Dr. Mark Bishop told several funny stories about his career in medicine. Mark’s message that laughter is a great healer was appreciated by everyone.
The after-entrée set was opened by perennial DocStar favorite Jennie and the Grayman. They were followed by the Dean Executive Team. Dr. Craig Samitt led his physician administrator’s team to a convincing victory over Mark Rothwell’s MBA team in a medical terminology spelling bee. Southern Value Equation, a Riverview rock band, closed the set with a combination of familiar covers and original songs.
After dessert, Dr. Brent Kooistra entertained guests with a well-received percussion solo. He was followed by Borborygmi, a quartet on GI docs who harmonized about the joys of colonoscopy prep. DocStar favorites, Code Blue, finished off the evening with a set of 50’s and 60’s rock favorites. The dance floor was full right up to closing time.
Dean Foundation wishes to thank our performers, artists, and guests for supporting the event and making it possible to provide so much free healthcare.
